Newport Touch
Rugby entered the Telford ‘Tag’ League this summer and came
runners up, despite never having played tag rules before!
Get
a feel for Touch Rugby!
It’s
fun, it gets you fitter, it’s competitive and it’s the world’s
fastest growing sport, with over a million players in Australia and
over 300,000 in New Zealand alone. You can enjoy ‘Touch’
whether you’re an experienced rugby player or a novice with a
give-it-a-go attitude. Newport Touch Rugby section has now been going
for two years, and has around 30 regular or occasional players, both
male and female. And we’re keen to increase that number!
What
are the rules?
Like rugby, but without the tackling, pushing and pain! If
you’ve seen ‘Tag’ rugby, it’s very similar to
that, but without the tags. Who can play? If you enjoy running around,
you can catch and throw a ball, and you are willing to push yourself
a bit – you’re in! Simply come down to the club at 7.15
on any Monday night with some boots or trainers and introduce
yourself. We play a ‘competitively social’ version of the
game that can be easily picked up after a couple of weeks. Our youngest
players are teenagers; our oldest have placed a legal injunction on
any publication of their ages.
Why
have a go?
Kiwi coaches believe that touch rugby is an essential method
for training the fundamental skills without the fear of getting hurt.
At Newport, we prefer to believe that touch rugby is a great excuse
to run around shouting, falling over and enjoying a great sport. So,
the question you should ask yourself is, “Why NOT have a go?”
